Manuel Bettencourt

Manuel Souza Bettencourt, a long time resident of the Sausalito area, died yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Petaluma, and was 64 years old.

Bettencourt was a retired rancher, having for many years operated a ranch on the land where Marin City now stands.

He is survived by two sons, Manuel of Sausalito and Anthony of Penn Grove, and two daughters, Mrs. Ida Duncan and Mrs. Mary McGrath of San Francisco.

He was a member of Sausalito Parlor, N.S.G.W. and of the I.D.E.S. and the F.O.A. of Sausalito.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Frank J. Keaton Mortuary. A Requiem mass will be celebrated at Star of the Sea church in Sausalito at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. Rosary services will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the Mortuary.

A death notice in the same paper adds that he was the husband of the late Virginia Bettencourt, father of Anthony H. Bettencourt and the late Frank and George. He was the half brother of John, Joseph and Tony DeMello, Mrs. Adeline Holmes, Josephine Abrahams and Mary Souza, and grandfather of five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
