Death Quietly Calls Pioneer Marin Mother
Mrs. J. R. Dickson Passes Away at Home of Her Son

Death came quietly to Mrs. Jane R. Dickson, one of Marin county’s beloved pioneers, as she slept in the home of her son, Fred Dickson, near San Geronimo last night. She had been in poor health for some time but death was unexpected.

Mrs. Dickson was the widow of the late William J. Dickson and the mother of Fred Dickson, prominent Marin citizen and the late Edith Dickson. She was a native of Scotland, aged 83 years.

She and Mr. Dickson were married in Rochester, New York in 1869 and she came as a bride to California that year on the first train over the transcontinental route which had just been opened.

The young couple came immediately to San Geronimo Valley and purchased 500 acres of its fertile land, made their home there, raised their family.

They held an important place in the county advancement program and were valued members of the First Presbyterian Church in San Rafael of which they were among the first to be enrolled.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the parlors of Keaton and Dusel. Rev. John Jefferson Canoles of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be made in the family plot at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery.
