Fatal Toadstools

Manuel Morris, the Portuguese well-digger, who lived on First Street, and his 7 year old daughter, Ida Morris, died Sunday as the result of being poisoned from eating toadstools on Friday last.

On last Friday morning the elder Morris gathered several quarts of what he supposed were mushrooms and prepared them for breakfast. He asked his entire family to partake of the dainties, but only Manuel, Ida, and himself accepted the invitation. The three ate heartily of the supposed mushrooms and suffered no inconvenience until Friday night, when Ida was taken sick. The family thought nothing of the matter, and the child was given no medical treatment. Saturday morning the father became violently ill and a little later in the day the boy Manuel complained of sickness. Dr. Jones was called in and at once detected symptoms of poisoning. Every possible method was taken to save the lives of the sufferers. It is believed that the supposed mushrooms were in reality toadstools of a very poisonous variety. The little girl died Saturday night and the father died Sunday night.
