Petaluma Man Commits Suicide Here

Henry Carstens of Petaluma committed suicide in this city on Sunday evening. The Argus has the following to say about him:
He was the night watchman at the big factory of the Western Apple Vinegar Co. in East Petaluma.
No cause can be found which would lead to the desperate deed, and the local friends of the young man cannot account for the suicide. Carstens was a native of Germany and was aged about 33 years. He had no relatives in this country as far as is known, and was a man who told but little of himself or his people as he was of a retiring disposition and was very quiet, and said but little.
He had been employed as watchman at the Vinegar factory for over a year, and on Tuesday last took a vacation and went to San Rafael. He had been stopping at the Marin Hotel in that city, and at 9 o’clock on Sunday evening, left the hotel and a little later was found with his throat cut and his hand was still clutching a bloody razor.
Manager A. A. Dowst of the Vinegar Co. was notified by telephone on Monday afternoon. He speaks highly of the deceased as do all of the local friends of the young man. All were astonished when they learned of his death.
An inquest was held Tuesday evening and the jury returned a verdict of suicide, but no cause could be assigned for the act.
