Doomed Man Died at San Quentin
Death has cheated the law and saved Charles Walden, 43, from having to go through the ordeal [of] being hanged for the murder of a man.
Walden died in the prison hospital yesterday, five days after an operation for a ruptured appendix.
He became ill while awaiting execution for the murder of Henry Schmidt, 76-year-old San Francisco grocer. Schmidt was killed during a $5 holdup in January 1931.
