J. THOMAS GOODALE

J. Thomas Goodale, 33, former administrative assistant to the San Rafael city manager, died yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness.

Goodale had been forced to retire in March 1971 because of illness. He entered the hospital Friday for surgery.

He was born in Sausalito, the grandson of the late Katharine H. Goodale, an earlyday resident of the city, and the son of the late John and Catherine Goodale.

Goodale was a graduate of Tamalpais High School and the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned a degree in business administration.

During his school years he worked as a postman in Sausalito.

In 1962 he went to work for the city of San Rafael, and he and his family moved to San Rafael in 1966, making their home at 27 Harcourt Street.

Goodale was active with the Little League and served as a volunteer first aid teacher at West End School in San Rafael.

He is survived by his wife, Lou Anna, and his children, Mason and Deanna, all of the family home.

Flags flew today at half-staff at San Rafael City Hall in Goodale’s memory.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Mission and court Streets, San Rafael.
