Edward Grady

Edward J. Grady, lifelong San Rafael resident and businessman, died Sunday in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Brady was born in San Rafael, the youngest child of Rose and Frank Grady, early-day Marin settlers.

He attended St. Anselm’s School, St. Mary’s High School and College in Moraga and the University of California at Davis.

Grady played third base for the West End baseball team in San Rafael at one time.

He was a partner in the Lucas Valley Dairy, a family business and also was a partner in Fairfax Lumber and a director of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association.

An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting on the family ranch.

Grady is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons, William E. Grady of San Rafael and Richard P. Grady of Novato; one brother, Robert Grady of San Rafael; two sisters, Margaret Merkley of Dixon and Loretta Grady of San Rafael, and two grandsons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Church in San Rafael. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. The rosary will be recited at 6 tonight at the church.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the Mother Raymond Scholarship Fund at Dominican College or a favorite charity.
