ELIZABETH RAFFO
Advocate for disabled
Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Raffo, a former San Rafael resident, died Dec. 12 in Santa Rosa, where she lived. She was 40.
Born in San Francisco, Ms. Raffo was raised in San Rafael. She graduated from Marindale School for the Orthopedic Handicapped, and was an Easter Seals Poster Child. She was one of the original contributors to Pobble Shop of San Rafael, a disabled local artists shop, and worked for 11 years at the Marin Community Workshop, before moving to Sonoma County.
She was the past president of “People First” of Sonoma, a proactive organization for disabled adults. She was also a medal-winning participant of the Special Olympics of Sonoma County. She also belonged to the Handicapables of St. Isabella’s.
Recently, she had become an accomplished artist under the direction of Becoming Independent Art Works Studio of SantaRosa.
She was also an avid collector of U.S. stamps.
She is survived by her parents, Bernice and David L. Raffo of San Rafael; her brother, David A. Raffo of Sausalito; her sister, Paula Raffo de Blaauw of Point Richmond; her grandmother Florence Baciocco of San Rafael; two nieces; and a nephew.
A memorial mass will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Nazareth House, 245 Nova Albion Way in San Rafael.
