NORA O’BRIEN HAND

Nora O’Brien Hand, a longtime Mill Valley resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1987, at Hillhaven Convalescent Hospital in Mill Valley after a short illness. She was 84.

She was born in Patrickswell in County Limerick, Ireland, and came to Long Island, N.Y., shortly after World War I to live with an aunt. She and her late husband, Albert, had moved to Mill Valley about 15 years ago.

In New York, she worked as a nurse.

“She was really so sweet. She was the last of the Irish saints,” said her daughter, Joan D’Amico of Mill Valley.

Mrs. Hand was a member of the Mill Valley Senior citizens and Mill Valley Marin Adult Day Health Services.

In addition to her daughter, Joan, she is survived by another daughter, Rita M. Hand of Pleasant Hill; a son, James A. Hand of Miami; a sister, Ann O’Brien, and two brothers, Tom and Jim O’Brien, all of Ireland; and eight grandchildren. Her husband died two years ago. They had been married 57 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mill Valley.

Burial will be private.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Russell and Gooch mortuary in Mill Valley.

The family has asked that donations in her memory be sent to a favorite charity.
