Earl O. Karinen
Earl O. Karinen of Novato, a retired Air Force master sergeant, died Thursday in a Vallejo hosital afteer a brief illness. He was 58.
Karinen was a native of Lake Norden, S.D. He joined the air force in 1938 and served in the New Guinea campaign during World War II.
Karinen also was a veteran of the Korean war and in his 32-year career served in the Caribbean, Guam and the Philippines.
He was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base on three different occasions, the first time in 1939 and most recently from 1955 to 1960.
Karinen retired in 1962 and moved to Novato. For about five years he worked for Schoonmaker & Co. in Sausalito.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Karinen, and four children, Michael F. Karinen of Santa Rosa and Patrick E. Karinen, Timothy J. Karinen and Margaret R. "Peggy" Karinen, all of Novato.
At Karinen's request, no funeral is planned.
A private family memorial service will be held.
