Ormand D. Mathews Dies At 70
Funeral for Ormand D. (Matt) Mathews of San Rafael, a landscape architect for 40 years in Marin, will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Russell and Gooch Mortuary in Mill Valley.
Mathews, 70, died Saturday at his home, He had been under a doctor’s care for a heart condition.
He and a partner founded Mathews and Thomas Construction Co. in Marin in the 1940s. Mathews later was joined in the firm by his brother, Hubert, who died five years ago.
A native of Oregon, Mathews attended Oregon State University and the University of Washington. An Army veteran, he was a major in the combat engineers during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Grace N. Mathews of San Rafael; a son, Ronald O. Mathews of Campbell; three daughters, Marlene Joel Crabtree of Canada, Marsha Lynn Krebs and Nancy Gale Mathews, both of San Rafael. He also leaves five grandchildren.
Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.

A Death Notice in the same paper states that he was a native of Coberg, Ore.
