MERVYN KERN
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mervyn A. Kern, a member of the first Fairfax Town Council, will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rita’s Church in Fairfax.
Kern died Monday at a local hospital following a short illness. He was 82.
A native of San Francisco, Kern moved to Fairfax in 1923 and had been the last surviving member of the first council which took office in 1931. He was recently the guest of honor at Fairfax’s 50th birthday party.
Kern was also a member of St. Rita’s Senior Club and the Whistlestoppers.
He is survived by his wife, Anita (Gannon) Kern; his children, Barbara Allen of Petaluma, Anita Harris of Madera County, Claire Stevens of Mill Valley, Michael Gannon of England, Sister Colleen S.N.J.M. of Marin Catholic High School and William Kern of San Francisco; one sister, Thelma Matlock of Walnut Creek; and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren..
A scripture service will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of the Hills with recitation of the rosary that evening at 8 p.m. Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. Memorial gifts to Sisters of the Holy Name, P.O. Box 907, Los Gatos, Calif. 95030. Friends may call at t he mortuary, Wednesday, after 12 noon.
