Mrs. Alta O. Johnson Dies At 66

Mrs. Alta O. Johnson, 66, of 18 Jules Drive, Novato, a 4-H Club leader in the Novato area for 17 years, died today in a Novato hospital after a long illness.

She was a native of Ohio and had lived in California 40 years and in Novato 20 years. She served as secretary of the Marin County Farm Bureau for seven years, until a year ago when she underwent major surgery.

Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Women’s college in Virginia. She was former archdruidess of Novato Sylvan Circle of Druids. She was club leader of the Novato Community 4-H Club and former president of the Marin County 4-H Leaders Council. She started the first Girl Scout troop in Novato in 1945.

Surviving are her husband, Archie H. Johnson, a former custodian for the Novato School District and Tidewater Oil Co. truck driver; two daughters, Mrs. Judith Price and Jean Johnson of Novato; a sister, Beatrice Overmyer of Maryland; a brother, Howard Overmyer of Ohio, and a granddaughter.

Funeral will be at Chapel of Marin Funeral Home in Novato at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Marin Memorial Park, Novato. Friends may call at the mortuary from 7:30to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Contributions to the American Cancer Society are preferred by the family.
