DAVID B. VAIL

David B. Vail, a former chairman of the Marin County Aviation Commission, died Wednesday at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco after suffering a heart attack.

Vail, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, was manager of his vineyard in Alexander Valley.

He had been a 25-year resident of Mill Valley before moving to Alexander Valley 18 months ago. Vail was a former member of the board of Marin Catholic Social Services and was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Vail, a pilot, served as chairman of the Marin County Aviation Commission in 1969. He was a native of North Dakota.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Vail of Healdsburg; two daughters, Jonatha Drew of Healdsburg and Patricia Richardson of Reno, Nev.; three sons, David C. Vail of Sonoma, Michael M. Vail of Healdsburg Steven B. Vail of Novato; a sister, Mary Margaret Trevathan of Martin, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Mill Valley. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Children’s Brain Disease Fund, care of Franklin Hospital, San Francisco. Private burial will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, San Diego County.

A Death Notice in the same paper states that he was the grandfather of David and John Gilfillan of Healdsburg.
