NANCY LEONARD KOPP
Owned Nancy’s Nurses
Nancy Leonard Kopp, a longtime Marin resident and owner of Nancy’s Nurses in Greenbrae, died Tuesday at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco after a short illness. She was 71.
Born April 13, 1922 in Los Angeles, she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1941. She attended University of California at Berkeley and received her nursing diploma from St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., an affiliate of the Mayo Clinic.
She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Kopp, in 1944. They lived in San Gabriel and South Pasadena before moving to Marin County in 1968.
She worked briefly for The Tamalpais in Greenbrae and for Upjohn Home Care Service before founding her own firm in 1981, providing nurses for in-home care.
Mrs. Kopp organized a free public lecture series, Health Wealth, in the early 1980s, and continued to present it until the time of her death. This year’s series, held at the YMCA, concluded yesterday.
“She was a great care-giver who had an ability to nurture patients and make them feel comfortable,” said her son, Walter Kopp of San Anselmo. He said her firm, Nancy’s Nurses, will continue.
Mrs. Kopp was also a deeply religious person, who was formally affiliated with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Novato but attended several other churches. “Church-going was a very important part of her life,” said her son.
Mrs. Kopp was also interested in local Republican politics and served as a member of the Marin Republican Central Committee.
She is survived by a sister, Barbara Duncan of Castro Valley, and three children, daughter Anne Rodgers of New Ark, Delaware, sons James Kopp of New York City, and Walter of Marin. Two children preceded her in death: Mary, who died in 1974, and Marty, who died in 1981, both of cancer. Marty’s daughter, Briana, lives in San Anselmo.
Funeral will be at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at South Novato Boulevard and Midway, Novato, at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastors of five churches will officiate.
A reception will follow at her home in Greenbrae.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Marin YMCA, 1500 Los Gamos Drive, San Rafael 94903, or a favorite charity.
