Mrs. Carl Durham Dies After Illness

Mrs. Maybell G. Durham, a Marin resident for the past 48 years who came here as a refugee from the earthquake and fire in San Francisco, died yesterday at her home following a lengthy illness.

She had lived with her husband and family for the past 35 years at 43 Palm avenue, and was born in San Francisco 66 years ago. She met her husband, Carl O. Durham, who came from Washington state to the Bay Area to see the ruins left by the earthquake and fire.

Mrs. Durham has been active in St. Raphael’s Church and the Catholic Parish, and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court San Rafael, No. 1102. She was also a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Ladies Aid Society, and Catholic Social Service Auxiliary.

Surviving her in addition to her husband, are sons, Jerome Durham of the home in San Rafael, Kenneth Durham, 132 Auburn street, San Rafael, Roland Durham, Boardwalk 4, Greenbrae, daughters, Mrs. John Calhoon of 129 Mabry way, Santa Venetia, Mrs. Walter O’Brien of Berkeley, Mrs. Carl Spanfelner of Los Molinos, a sister, Mrs. Claire Everman, 215A Belle avenue, San Rafael, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Keaton’s mortuary, San Rafael, followed by a Requiem High Mass a St. Raphael’s Church at 9:30 a.m. burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the mortuary.

A death notice in the same paper names the grandchildren: Mrs. Broc Probert of San Bernardino, Marian, Bonnie and Kathleen O’Brien of Berkeley, Nancy, David and Gary Spanfelner of Los Molinos, Stephen Durham, Christopher and Jeffrey Calhoon, and Dane Durham of San Rafael. Her great grandchildren were Alan and Deborah Probert.
