JEAN E. MELHASE

Jean Ellen Melhase died yesterday at a local hospital after collapsing at her home at 240 Hazel Avenue, Mill Valley.

Mrs. Melhase, 37, had been ailing and complained of chest pains and fever Monday night, according to the Marin County coroner’s office, which attributed death to natural causes pending outcome of an autopsy.

A native of Oregon, Mrs. Melhase had lived in California for 15 years and in Marin County for the past four.

Mrs. Melhase was a bookkeeper for the C. W. Sweeney Co. of San Francisco.

She is survived by her husband, Richard V. Melhase, a railroad company estimator, and a sister, Margaret Cromwell of Portland.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Russell and Gooch funeral chapels in Mill Valley.
