Robert L. Goetz, 51, noted Marin architect

Architect Robert L. Goetz died Saturday at his Belvedere home after a brief illness. He was 51.

Goetz lived all his life in the Bay Area, residing in the East Bay before moving to Belvedere about 10 years ago.

He was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

He was an architect in San Francisco and Oakland for 27 years, designing and doing community planning in many areas of Northern California. At first he designed individual homes and later went into the design of larger buildings, including the Moraga Country Club, and city planning in various places, including Albany and Napa County.

Goetz was a partner in the proposed housing development for Ring Mountain.

He was the recipient of numerous architectural awards and his work has been recognized in national magazines, newspapers and several books.

Goetz was a member of the American Institute of Architects, Belvedere Tennis Club and the Belvedere Sailing Society.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and three sons, Paul, Peter and Stephen Goetz. There are also three stepdaughters, Kara, Lindsay and Dana Anderson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Stephen’s Church in Belvedere.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the Ernest H. Rosenbaum Foundation at Mount Zion Hospital, San Francisco.
