Man Hangs Self At County Jail
Taking a cord from the mattress in his cell at t he county jail, William C. Johansen of Tamalpais Valley hanged himself last Sunday.
Following a party at the Johansen home in Tamalpais Valley Saturday night, his wife, Mrs. Irene Johansen, requested Sheriff W. B. Sellmer to send an officer to the home to take her husband to jail as he had become noisy at the party. Undersheriff E. T. Blum and Constable Ben Hartwell took Mr. Johansen into custody. A stepson, whose name is being withheld by authorities, was also taken to jail. The party, it is said, was held in honor of the birthday of Mr. Johansen’s stepdaughter.
Sunday, shortly after noon, Mrs. Johansen went to the jail to visit her husband, and when Sheriff Sellmer went to release the man from his cell it was found that Johansen had taken his life.
