San Rafael Pioneer Goes To Long Rest

Ambrose Kerrigan, a resident of San Rafael for close to half a century, died last Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. May Adams, at the age of 85 years.

Sixty-one years ago Kerrigan, 24 years of age, and recently from his home in Ireland, left New York on the sailing vessel George Law. At Aspinwall he transferred to the Golden Age bound for San Francisco.

He left that city, then nothing more that a bustling town, for the gold fields. For a time successful, he made a bad investment and lost considerable money. It was shortly after this that he came to San Rafael, where he had since resided.

Two or three years ago Kerrigan in a conversation with Charles S. Barney, remarked that that day was a certain anniversary of his arrival by boat in San Francisco.

A discussion revealed the fact that the two had been fellow passengers on the Golden Age in 1855.

A large funeral was held Monday at St. Raphael's church.

Deceased was the father of Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Ella O'Brien, Ambrose and the late Frank Kerrigan.
