Rites Planned For Soldier Who Adopted Marin As Home
A 21-year-old soldier who came to Marin from Mexico five years ago and died in Korea will be buried with full military honors by his adopted homeland Thursday in Golden Gate National cemetery.
He is Daniel De La Rocha, killed in action last November 6 while serving as an infantry machine gunner.
De La Rocha is survived by his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Castellani, 165 Glen Park avenue, San Rafael; two brothers, Sergio De La Rocha, Marin Catholic High school student, and George, also of San Rafael; and one sister, Hilda, of Burlingame.
The young soldier came to California at the age of 17, and attended St. Anselm’s High school for a year before transferring to a San Francisco school. He was drafted and was in Korea three months when he was killed.
Before entering the Army, he was employed in a San Francisco market.
Rosary will be recited tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the Julius Godeau mortuary, San Francisco, with Requiem Mass at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Tenth and Howard streets, San Francisco.
