EDWIN SCHWIEN

Edwin E. Schwien, 75, a retired Army brigadier general and brother of Norman O. Schwien, a retired Navy captain of Greenbrae, died Saturday at the Oakland Navy hospital.

General Schwien served as the Army’s chief liason with the French Army in the southern invasion of France during World War II.

He fought in France during World War I after graduating from Yale University. General Schwien, a native of Missouri, retired from the Army in 1945 because of a war-related disability.

Before moving to Moraga, Contra Costa County, he had raised cattle in Tennessee and Virginia and had been associated with L. N. Schwien Engineering Co. of Los Angeles, operated by a brother.

Surviving are his wife, Helen, a daughter, Mrs. Camille Nicholson of Virginia, three brothers, Norman O. of Greenbrae, Jean S. of Laguna Hills, Orange County, and L. N. Schwien of Culver City, Los Angeles County, and a granddaughter.

General Schwien will lie in state at the Hull Chapel in Walnut Creek until he is taken to Arlington National Cemetery for services and burial.
