Valerie Shawn Grogan
Age 52, passed away from cancer, August 1, 2002 in Cambridge, MA. Shawn received her BA from Mills College in Oakland in 1973. An editor of the Mills Quarterly Alumni Magazine, she interned in Washington, DC under Congressman Pete McCloskey, and also headed the National Student Get Out To Vote Campaign. While working in Sacramento, she rewrote the California State Voters Pamphlet. She worked tirelessly for the public schools in Marin County, in addition to being a member of the Kentfield Schools Foundation. She authored the original campaign for parcel tax funding for the Kentfield Schools. She raised funds for both Wildcare and the Marine Mammal Center. She is survived by two children, Bryan (New York) and Erin (Colorado), mother Patricia Grogan (San Rafael), brother Thomas James Grogan Jr. (Santa Monica), sister Megan Grogan Anderson (Mill Valley), and partner William Dodd (Cambridge, Mass.).
