Ross Tax Collector Kenneth Martin Dies
Kenneth C. Martin, treasurer-tax collector of the Town of Ross since 1948, died in a local hospital yesterday after suffering a stroke Saturday night in his home at 46 Woodside Way, Ross. He was 56.
A native of Oakland and 25-year resident of Ross, he was employed by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. in San Francisco as a commercial engineer.
Martin was appointed to the part-time post of town treasurer-tax collector by the Ross Town Council in May of 1948. He was elected to the post in April, 1952, and re-elected in April, 1956.
Born Jan. 19, 1902 he was a son of the late Shelby Martin, an Oakland bank president, and grandson of the late J. West Martin, former mayor of Oakland.
Last May, Martin suffered a mild stroke from which he appeared to have made a satisfactory recovery. He was admitted to the hospital at 10:15 p.m. Saturday after being stricken a second time. Death came at 2:15 a.m. yesterday.
Martin was a member of the Indian Valley Golf Club and Bell Telephone Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Shelby of San Mateo; a daughter, Mrs. Sally Dorn of Novato; a brother, J. Wesley Martin of Oakland, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Gothic Chapel of Mountain View Cemetery at the end of Piedmont avenue, Oakland.
Friends may call at the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo, until noon tomorrow.

A Death Notice in the same paper names the grandchildren as Susan, Patricia, Nancy and Michael Dorn; a cousin, Allen Martin of San Francisco, and an aunt, Barbara Murdock of San Francisco.
