Jerome Novotny Dies Unexpectedly In S.F. Hospital

Jerome F. Novotny, 43-year-old San Rafael resident, died unexpectedly Saturday in the Ft. Miley Veterans Hospital where he had been for two days.

Novotny was an auditor for Pacific Indemnity Co. in San Francisco for the past two years. He worked for Allstate Insurance Co. in Chicago and Los Angeles and Craftsmen's insurance Co. in San Francisco before taking the position with Pacific Indemnity.

He studied insurance at University of California at Los Angeles after earlier study at Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill.

Novotny had nearly completed an extensive "do-it-yourself" project of entirely remodeling his home at 1554 Grand avenue when he was taken ill.

His other interests included the Boy Scouts and American Legion. He was Northern District representative to the Marin County Boy Scout Council for three years and a member of Wilkins Post 37 of the Legion.

Novotny was born in Michigan, but spent his school days in Berwyn, Ill. He served in the Sea Bees during World War I, coming to California several years later.

Survivors are his wife of 21 years, Marie, and two sons, Jerome Jr. and Dennis, at the family home; his mother, Mrs. Mae E. Novotny of Berwyn, Ill.; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Eleanor Lanbur of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Marian Lakosil of Berwyn, Ill., and Frank Novotny of Glendale, Ariz.

A Requiem High Mass will be offered Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael's Church. The funeral procession will leave Keaton's Mortuary at 9:15 a.m. Committal will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.

The Rosary will be recited at Keaton's Chapel at 8 p.m. tomorrow.
