Barbara L. Swenson
On April 30, 2002, left this life to be with her Lord, after a mighty battle with the complications of pneumonia in her nearly three year old transplanted lung. She died peacefully at the UCSF Medical Center in the presence of her family. Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, Eric Swenson, and twin 31 year-old daughters, Karin Swenson of San Francisco and Kristin Henderson, and her husband Randal, of Litchfield, Connecticut, and by her best friend and loving mother Jean Price Lewis of Arlington, Virginia. She is also survived by her father Willis F. Lewis of Shreveport, Louisiana, her mother's sisters, Betty Swift of Arlington, Virginia and Mary Ellen Sparks of Montgomery, Alabama, her mother's brother James Price of McLean, Virginia, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Christopher and Pamela Swenson of Bonita Springs, Florida and other aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the country. Barbara was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1942, and lived in Arlington, Virginia for much of her early life. She worked on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C. for several Congressmen in the 1960's, where she met Eric. She moved from Falls Church, Virginia with her family to San Anselmo in 1976. Barbara's spiritual and social lives were centered around her many dear friends at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ross and other wonderful people in the Marin Cursillo Community. She was a devoted wife and cherished the miracle of the birth and life of Kristin and Karin and the joy of being their mother. After a lengthly illness, Barbara received a lung transplant in May of 1999, extending her life and giving her nearly three more years, each day of which she thanked God and lived to the fullest, with special thanks to the donor of her new lung and the donor's family. She and her family will be forever grateful for the care she has received over the years from the doctors and other professionals at UCSF and Kaiser, San Rafael, whose skill and loving kindness helped to both extend her life and make her final days peaceful. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 4, 2002 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ross, on Lagunitas Rd. at Shady Lane. In lieu of flowers, Barbara would like any memorial gifts to be given to the UCSF Heart-Lung Transplant Family Fund, (Checks payable to U.C. Regents) 505 Parnasses Ave., Box 0126, San Francisco, CA 94143. Monte's Chapel of the Hills Family Owed and Operated San Anselmo ~ 415-453-8440.
