Welder Who Fell From Cliff Dies
A San Francisco welder who fell 50 feet from a cliff near Point Reyes Saturday morning while abalone hunting died at San Rafael General hospital at 3:20 that afternoon. John Stark, 45, of 844 Shrader street died from multiple lacerations of the scalp and a crushed chest.
Stark and his companion George Burton of 363 Manor drive were abalone hunting when the tide cut them off. Stark attempted to climb a 100-foot cliff when he lost his balance and fell.
Burton summoned the Coast Guard which sent an eight-man rescue crew to get the injured man out with ropes and a litter. He was hoisted to the Point Reyes lighthouse road several hours later and taken to the San Rafael hospital.
