CHARLES J. SCHIFFERLE DIES AT 85

Charles J. Schifferle, 85, a San Anselmo engineer, died today at a local hospital after an illness of 10 months.

For the past five years, he had lived off and on in San Anselmo with his daughter, Mrs. Irwin Diamond of 30 Ichabod Court. He also had a home in Walnut Creek.

Schifferle was engineer for the Hillcone Steamship Co. of San Francisco for 35 years and worked there until he became ill last January.

A native of St. Louis, Mo., he lived in California since 1918.

Besides his daughter in San Anselmo, he leaves another daughter, Josephine Grandjean of Sunnyvale; a sister, Magdalen Flachmann of Missouri; three brothers, August Schifferle of Oakland, Leo Schifferle of El Cerrito, and Fred Schifferle of Missouri, and seven grandchildren.

Private family services will be held tomorrow at Sunset Memorial Park in Berkeley.
