Melba “Billie” Triest
Former ballet dancer

Melba “Billie” Triest of Fairfax died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1993, at Marin General Hospital. She was 88.

Mrs. Triest was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to San Francisco as a young woman.

She lived in San Francisco’s North Beach area during the 1930s, working part time as a file clerk. She performed as a ballet dancer during that time as well.

In the early 1940s she moved to Reno and then returned to the Bay Area about 20 years later.

She worked as a bookkeeper in San Francisco for the J. G. Yamas Heating and Air Conditioning Co. until her retirement.

She settled in Fairfax 30 years ago.

She studied Chinese and Russian, and enjoyed gardening.

“She loved children and her community,” said her daughter, Toni Triest of Fairfax.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Triest is survived by five grandchildren.
