Petaluma Man Found Dead At His Home
John A. Hofer, 35, of 3710 Bodega Avenue, Petaluma, died today at 12:44 a.m. at his home.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department said Hofer apparently took his own life with a .22 caliber rifle. Hofer was reported to have been despondent since his return home yesterday after a period of hospitalization.
A native of Wisconsin, he had lived in Petaluma 15 years and was briefly employed as a roofer with the Nevada Roofing Co. He was the son of Mrs. Helen Hofer of Portage, Wis., and the late Andrew Hofer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Catherine L., two daughters, Pamela and Sandra, and a son, John Jr. all of the home; a step-son, Alan Miler with the Peace Corps in Utah; two brothers Jerry Hofer of Rohnert Park and William Hofer of Portage, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Beverly Hale and Mrs. Ann De Keyser, of Lakeport.
Funeral is pending at the Parent Funeral Home in Petaluma.
