LAURIE, James Anthony "Jimmy" - Age 62, a long time Marin County resident, died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Marin General Hospital in Larkspur, CA due to complications from a mild heart attack. Originally from Chicago, IL, Mr. Laurie graduated with a B.S. degree from Loyola University and later attended DePaul University School of Law. In 1962, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proceeded through training at Officer Candidate School in Norfolk, VA. He was discharged in 1965 after serving as a Lieutenant and a navigator on the USS Aucilla. Since relocating to the Bay Area from Chicago in 1969, Mr. Laurie has developed a reputation as a respected and trusted member of the San Francisco financial community. At the time of his death, he was Vice President of Private Placements of D.R.Mayo & Co., in addition to holding the position of the Financial Advisor to the California State Treasurer for the California Capital Access Loan Program. Mr. Laurie was also the cofounder of Latin American Financing Solutions, a financial services company. Many of those fortunate enough to have known Jim often said that he was the smartest person they had ever known, but those close to him also valued his selfless dedication to his family, enthusiasm for life, and integrity. His love of laughter was notorious, as were his many jokes and stories. He raised his children with the same sense of morality and purpose that he lived his own life by. We will miss his grace, his love, and his style. These innumerable gifts which will live on through his daughters will give us comfort and keep his memory alive. He will be with us always in heart and spirit. Jim is survived by Holly, his adoring wife of 24 years and his two loving daughters, Heather, currently attending UC Davis and Hilary, a student at UC Santa Barbara. He is also survived by five brothers and sisters, and is preceded in death by both his mother Ruth Kirschner of Chicago, IL and father, Carl Laurie of Plymouth, England. We release him into God's arms and remember him with pride. A private mass will be held and the family welcomes your prayers. In lieu of flowers, his wife and daughters would greatly appreciate donations made to the American Heart Association. Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel, 270 Miller Ave., Mill Valley 415-388-1573
