Dorothy A. Cerelli

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anselm’s Church in Ross for Dorothy A. Cerelli, a longtime San Anselmo resident and survivor of the 1906 earthquake.

Mrs. Cerelli died Tuesday at Marin General Hospital at the age of 95.

She was born in San Francisco in 1888 and was a teenager at the time of the earthquake.

“She always told us how she and her family camped on top of Telegraph Hill in Army tents,” said her daughter, Vivian Egisti.

She moved to San Anselmo in 1912 and had lived there ever since.

During World War II, Mrs. Cerelli was a Civil Defense warden on her street in San Anselmo.

She also had been a member of St. Anselm’s Church in Ross since 1912, was a charter member of the Fairfax Senior Association and belonged to the Marin Senior Association of San Rafael. In addition, she was a member of the Jesuit Seminary Association in San Francisco.

She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Egisti of Terra Linda, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at the Italian Cemetery in Colma.

The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
