Sports Car Accident Kills Man
A 46-year-old Larkspur man was killed Saturday night in an accident on Lucas Valley Road when his sports car ran off the roadway, hit an embankment and flipped over.
James E. DeFabio of 16 Walnut Avenue, who died of chest and head injuries, was pinned in the wreckage of the upside-down car, according to Highway Patrol officers.
A passenger in the 1972 Porsche, Cecelia B. Kudlick, 38, of 52 Surrey Lane, San Rafael, suffered an injury (sic), cuts, and injuries to her arms. She was reported in fair condition today at Marin General Hospital, where she was taken after the 11:15 p.m. accident.
A Highway Patrol spokesman said DeFabio was eastbound on Lucas Valley Road near Mount McKinley Road when he failed to make a curve in the road. His car skidded in gravel on a turnout before hitting an embankment and turning over.
Further details of the accident were not known, according to the spokesman.
DeFabio was the 20th traffic fatality in Marin County this year, as compared to nine traffic deaths by the same date last year.
He was a partner in Bay Sales and Installation, an aero conveying systems firm.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie, who lives in Greenbrae.
Funeral arrangements were pending today at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
