Cecilia Raphael Succumbs

Mrs. Cecilia Furrer Raphael, 70, a resident of San Anselmo for many years, died in a local hospital last night after a heart attack.

She was the wife of Albert Raphael of 1226 San Anselmo Avenue, with whom she operated a grocery in San Anselmo from 1926 to 1947. On his retirement in 1947 the Raphaels moved to Middletown, Lake County, where they lived until 1953, before returning to San Anselmo.

Mrs. Raphael was taken to the hospital yesterday and died at 9:30 p.m. She had suffered a previous heart attack about seven months ago.

Mrs. Raphael, a native of San Francisco, settled in San Anselmo with her husband in 1924. She was a member of St. Anselm’s Young Ladies Institute.

She is also survived by a son, Ralph A. Raphael of Yuba City, district manager in Marysville for t he California State Automobile Assn.; a daughter, Mrs. Selma C. Dike of Millbrae; four sisters, Mary Furrer, Mrs. Rose Rochford, Mrs. Pauline Freden and Mrs. Loretta Kays of San Francisco; four brothers, John and Edward Furrer of San Francisco and Louis and Frederick Furrer of San Mateo, and three grandchildren.

Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anselm’s Church, San Anselmo. The cortege will form at 9 a.m. at Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. The Rosary will be recited at t he mortuary at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds information: she was the grandmother of Suzan Anne, James and Gayle Dike, and the sister of the late Joseph Furrer and the late Mrs. Anne Elsa.
