MATTHEWS, Gordon Wyllie - 84, passed away from cancer at home in Santa Rosa on August 30 surrounded by his beloved family. Surviving him are his devoted wife of 51 years, Helen, a son Gordon Matthews, Jr. of Orinda, and three daughters, Anne Matthews of Park City, UT, Susan Reinhart of Ross and Amy Matthews of San Francisco, He was the father-in-law of April Matthews of Orinda and Tom Reinhart of Ross and grandfather of Lauren and Hillary Matthews and Kendall, Cooper and Trevor Reinhart. He also leaves a brother Robert, of Kalamazoo, MI. Gordon grew up in Glencoe, IL and graduated from Purdue University in 1939. He served his country as a Captain in the Ordinance Department of the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service, he was employed with Inland Steel Products in Milwaukee, WI for thirty years. He and his family then moved to Grand Rapids, MI where he worked as a business consultant. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at Presbyterian Church of the Roses, 2500 Patio Court in Santa Rosa.
