HENRY J. NACHTSHEIM SR.
Henry J. Nachtsheim Sr. of San Rafael, a civilian electrical planner for the Navy for 25 years, died Sunday at a local convalescent home after a long illness.
Born in St. Paul, Minn., he moved to Washington in 1927. He joined the civil service branch of the Navy in 1940 and was at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese invasion in 1941. He received the Secretary of the Navy’s Medal for his performance that day.
Nachtsheim remained at Pearl Harbor until 1952 working on submarine radar equipment. He then moved to San Francisco, where he worked for the Navy until he retired in 1965.
Nachtsheim moved to San Rafael in 1962.
He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Lodge No. 598, Free and Accepted Masons of Honolulu, and Scottish Rite Bodies of Honolulu. He also was a member of the Marin Chapter 102 of the Redwood Empire Council No. 46 Royal and Select Masters and the Santa Rosa Commandery No. 14, Knights Templar.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo, the Sons in Retirement Society, The Whistlestoppers, the Galilee Shrine No. 48, the White Shrine of Jerusalem of Petaluma, Sequoia Court No. 79, Order of Amaranth and several other organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Belle Nachtsheim of San Rafael; a son, retired Army Col. Henry J. Nachtsheim of Sebastopol; four sisters, Selma Williams and Lucille Harling of Seattle, Wash., Josephine Grigware of Whidbey Island, Wash., and Pearl Pesce of Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Williams and Heffernan Mortuary in San Rafael. Burial is at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was the grandfather of Henry J. Nachtsheim, III and Donald Nachtsheim of Sebastopol, Mrs. Susan Wilson of St. Louis, Mo. and Timothy Nachtsheim, U.S. Navy, Alameda.
