LUTHER W. JOHNSTON

Luther W. Johnston of Fairfield, a former Marin resident, died Saturday after a lengthy illness. He was 63.

Mr. Johnston, a native of Richwood, W. Va., was a Novato and San Rafael resident for more than 20 years before moving to Fairfield.

He was employed by the Bob Jennings Cab Co. of San Rafael for 20 years, and worked for 41 years as an engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad in Richmond.

He was a member of the Vallejo Elks 559, the Senior Citizens Club in Fairfield, the Old Rail’s Club, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Grace Episcopal Church in Fairfield.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Johnston of Fairfield; four daughters, Barbara Larson of Novato, Anita Van Peer of Fort Bragg, Charlene Jensen of San Diego and Shelley Johnston of San Rafael; two sons, Dale Johnston of San Rafael and David Johnston of San Rafael; a sister, Henrietta Ferguson; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church, 1405 West Kentucky Street, Fairfield.

The inurnment will be private. His ashes will be flown to West Virginia and scattered over the mountains.

The family prefers memorial contributions to Father John Duncan’s discretionary fund, Grace Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 181, Fairfield 94533.
