MOORE, William Wallace - Passed away peacefully at home in San Rafael, CA on October 23, 2002 at age 90. He was born in Pasadena, CA where he attended Caltech and earned a BS and MS in Civil Engineering in 1933 and 1934, respectively and was a member of Tau Beta Pi. In 1938, he and Trent Dames formed Dames & Moore, a consulting engineering firm that, over 62 years, grew to be an international firm with over 100 partners and 6,000 employees. Initially, the firm specialized in geotechnical engineering; since the 1970's the firm expanded services to environmental engineering and applied earth sciences. Mr. Moore excelled at serving clients by developing technical solutions to their engineering problems. He was also a leader in teaching and practicing ethical and professional conduct in all aspects of his business. Over his career he was honored with numerous awards and served on many boards and advisory committees including the National Academy of Engineering. He was also President of the Structural Engineers Association of California (1947), the San Francisco section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (1958), the American Consulting Engineers Council (1964) and International Federation of Consulting Engineering (FIDIC) (1970). His technical interests included soil mechanics, foundation engineering and earthquake engineering. His avocation was boating on San Francisco Bay. Mr. Moore is survived by his adored wife of 69 years, Genie, daughter Susan and husband Ken Orrett, son Bill and wife Sandy and son Roy and wife Elaine, brother Walter Moore of Sedona, AZ and grandchildren Lucy Mantilla, Julie Ann Weiss, Tricia Meyer, Elaine Moore, Billy Moore, Ben Moore, Michael Moore, Ryan Moore and great grandchildren Louisa Fernada Mantilla and Marcela Renee Mantilla, and Cailin Blue Moore Family and friends will hold a celebration of his life on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at The San Francisco Yacht Club in Belvedere from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
