Charlie D. Simpson
Of Corte Madera, age 81, died at Marin General Hospital on July 17, 2002 after a three-month illness. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jo-Ann, and daughter, Sabrina; grandchildren, Clare and Miles Zimmerman. He leaves a sister, Flora Irvine Hurlocker of Concord, NC and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. Charlie worked in his family photography business in North Carolina. During WWII, he was an aerial photographer at Langley Field, Virginia. In 1951 he was recruited by a U.S. Government Agency. After two years in Washington, he was transferred to the San Francisco Bay Area where he remained until he died, (moving to Marin in 1956.) Because the hours of his government job were "unusual", he was able to have many part-time jobs and do a good bit of volunteer work with his daughter's school mates as well as other students at Ross School. His part-time jobs, not only supplemented his income, but contributed to his eclectic interests in Marin County: classes at Marin J.C., photo lab jobs, freelance photography, gas jockey, and working at Colonial Liquors, both in Kentfield and Corte Madera. After age 70, he was able to do something dear to his family's life style! He enjoyed the last of his part-time jobs as "Mr. Recycle" in Tiburon. He managed to touch many people from all over Marin during his nearly half century here. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held August 15th, at 4:30 p.m. at Deer Park Villa in Fairfax. Donations in Charlie's memory may be made to your favorite charity.
