MSGR. CARROLL
Msgr. Andrew J. Carroll, one-time assistant pastor at St. Raphael’s Church in San Rafael, died Saturday in a Hayward hospital at the age of 89.
Monsignor Carroll, who served at St. Raphael’s from 1920 to 1924, was retired pastor of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Berkeley.
He was a native of Ballyroan, Ireland and was ordained in Baltimore in 1910.
He served as pastor of St. Rose’s Church in Crockett and St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Palo Alto before his appointment to the Berkeley parish.
During his many years as a priest, he also served as assistant pastor in various Bay Area parishes including churches in San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, after which at 8 p.m., there will be a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ambrose Church.
Burial will be Wednesday in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
