Nadia Walsh

Nadia Walsh, a longtime administrative secretary at the International Longshore & Warehouse Union, died peacefully at her Greenbrae home on Oct. 6 at the age of 87.

Mrs. Walsh was the secretary to former ILWU President Harry Bridges for 39 years, dating back to when the union was formed in 1937 until her retirement in 1976.

She attended the first ILWU convention and most of the subsequent conventions until her retirement.

Mrs. Walsh was born and raised in San Francisco and attended Mission High School.

While on a vacation in New York, she met George Walsh; the two married three years later and settled in San Francisco. George Walsh was a member of ILWU Local 34 for 68 years.

Mrs. Walsh is survived by her husband, George, and sons Michael Walsh of Ashland, Ore., and Bernard Walsh of Greenbrae, also a member of ILWU local #34.
