SISTER FRANCIS RAPHAEL HOGAN
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Dominican Convent in San Rafael for Sister Francis Raphael Hogan, 76-year-old retired educator.
Sister Francis Raphael died unexpectedly Monday of a heart attack in Livermore, where she had lived for the past 15 years.
She had a 39-year career in various Dominican and parochial schools, including teaching at St. Raphael’s School in San Rafael in 1969 and 1970.
Sister Francis Raphael was born in San Francisco and lived in Livermore as a child. She and her twin sister, who had been baptized as Catherine and Agnes Hogan respectively, entered the Dominican Order in 1926.
Sister Francis Raphael had taught in Vallejo, Benicia, Napa, San Francisco and Livermore schools. She also had served as principal of Our Lady of Snows School in Reno and Sacred Heart School in San Francisco and had been superior of St. Catherine’s Convent in Benicia.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Ursula Hogan of San Domenico School in Sleepy Hollow.
A rosary will be recited at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the Dominican Convent chapel.
Burial will be in St. Dominic’s Cemetery in Benicia.
