JACK S. HEARD

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Keaton’s Chapel of Marin in Novato for Jack S. Heard, former chief pharmacist at Marin General Hospital.

Mr. Heard, also a retired U.S. Army colonel, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 7, 1988, at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco. He was 66.

Mr. Heard was a native of Berkeley and attended high school and junior college in San Francisco. He received his degree in pharmacy from the University of California School.

He served with the Army in World War II and also was a member of the Army Reserve for 20 years.

Mr. Heard, who served as Marin General’s director of pharmacy for 17 years, lived in Mill Valley from 1960 until 1977, when he moved with his family to Rohnert Park.

He was a member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, American Pharmaceutical Association and Redwood Empire Pharmaceutical Association. He served as president of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists from 1961 to 1962 and of the Marin County Pharmaceutical Association in 1965. He also worked as a hospital consultant and wrote several articles for Hospitals magazine and the American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy.

In addition, he was a member [of] Ross Valley Rotary Club for many years.

Family members describe him as a gentle, considerate man who enjoyed swimming, walking and traveling.

Mr. Heard is survived by his wife, Harriet Heard of Rohnert Park; three sons, Stuart E. Heard of Novato, Stanley J. Heard of Petaluma, and Stacey R. Heard of Chula Vista; two daughters, Marcia Heard Antipa of Pleasant Hill and Marguerite C. Heard of San Rafael; his mother, Myrtle E. Heard of Santa Rosa; and five grandchildren.

Another son, Steven H. Heard, died earlier.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Burial will be private Monday at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

The family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Associaton or the American Lung Association.
