San Anselmo Man Dies In Bridge Leap
A 24-year-old San Anselman jumped to his death from Golden Gate Bridge yesterday while on a picture-taking trip with a friend, the California Highway Patrol said.
The victim was Geoffrey P. Gneri of 2 Raymond Avenue, a senior at the University of California.
The highway patrol quoted his companion, Doreen Erickson, 23, also of San Anselmo, as saying the pair went out on the span around 9 a.m. to take pictures. When they reached mid-span, she walked away. When she turned around, she saw him leap from the railing, according to the patrol.
Miss Erickson said Gneri had told her he was depressed because he “felt worthless.”
The body was recovered by the Coast Guard and taken to Chapel of the Hills Mortuary in San Anselmo. Arrangements are incomplete.
Gneri was the son of Franklin G. Gneri, business representative of Painters Union Local 83 in San Rafael.
