GERTRUDE H. KENT
A memorial service for Gertrude H. Kent of San Rafael, who was a registered nurse and longtime volunteer worker, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in San Rafael.
She died Monday after a long illness at the age of 85.
Miss Kent was born in Bakersfield and lived in Oakland and San Francisco and also the Boston area before moving to Marin County in the early 1930s.
She was trained as a nurse at the old Fabiola Hospital in Oakland and worked for several years at the Boston Children’s Hospital.
After she came to Marin, she was with the county visiting nurse program and later in private nursing. After she retired, she spent long hours as a volunteer at Ross General Hospital. While she was hospitalized there in recent weeks, she was presented with a plaque honoring her as the most outstanding volunteer at the hospital.
Friends remember Miss Kent as a woman who gave her whole life to serving other people.
She was a communicant of St. Paul’s.
Survivors include two nieces in Southern California.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the Gertrude H. Kent Nurses’ Scholarship Fund, in care of Ross General Hospital Volunteers, P.O. Box 857, Ross 94957, or to St. Paul’s Church.
