MARIA F. JORGE
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato for longtime Novato resident Maria F. Jorge.
Mrs. Jorge died Tuesday, June 7, 1988, at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco during cardiac surgery. She was 51.
Mrs. Jorge was a native of the Azore Islands. She moved to California in 1957, first living in Elk Grove, near Sacramento; then Sausalito, from 1962 to 1967; and, since then, Novato.
Mrs. Jorge worked at Marin General Hospital for seven years.
She also was a member of IDESI of Novato, Petaluma Holy Ghost Society, IDESSI of Sausalito, SCDES Society of Vallejo, Woman’s Portuguese Association and SPRSI Council No. 29 of Sausalito.
A friend described Mrs. Jorge as well-liked, generous and gracious.
Until she became ill and was forced to undergo surgery, Mrs. Jorge and her husband had planned a trip to the Azores to present a religious statue to the Catholic church in their native village.
Mrs. Jorge is survived by her husband, Jose Jorge of Novato, a brother, Felomeno Jorge of Rhode Island, and six nephews.
The rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at Keaton’s Chapel of Marin in Novato.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael.
