Funeral Service for Mrs. Faustine Durel Monday Afternoon
Mrs. Faustine Durel, 73, of Woodacre, a resident of Marin county for the past 20 years, succumbed Friday in an ambulance en route to a local hospital following a stroke. Her health had been failing for a number of years but death came as a shock to family and friends.
The late matron maintained her own home in Woodacre until her health failed, when she resided with her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Smith, there. The death of a son, Charles Durel, in Los Angeles, was withheld from her as it was feared the shock might prove fatal.
Mrs. Durel was formerly Miss Faustine Caron, the daughter of a prominent French family in New Orleans. Her husband was the late Peter J. Durel and they were the parents of seven children. Before coming to California the Durels had a business in Honduras.
The deceased is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Smith, of Woodacre; Mrs. Fred L. Alexander of Oakland, Mrs. Harvey A. Borkheim of Woodacre; three sons, Peter J. Durel of Woodacre; Caron B. Durel of Santa Cruz, and Hyland Durel of Los Angeles, and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Five of her grandchildren Mrs. Donald Pedersen, Misses Eula and Clifford Smith and Misses Beverly Ann and Elaine Borkheim, all of Woodacre, reside in Marin, as does her great-granddaughter, Donna Jane Pedersen, of Woodacre.
Funeral services were held from the chapel of Keaton’s Mortuary here Monday at 1:30 p.m., and interment was at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery.
