Harry Franklin Killed as Cars, Truck Collide

Harry L. Franklin, age 48(?), of San Anselmo, died Sunday at the Fort Miley Veterans’ Hospital, as a result of an accident last Friday evening at the top(?) of Greenbrae bridge, when a truck and trailer, and two cars crashed.

Franklin was driving north on 101 highway. While attempting a left hand turn into Drake’s blvd., the truck and trailer loaded with pears, being driven south by John Hiebakos, 20 (?), of Petaluma crashed into Franklin (?) and sent his car to the edge of the overpass.

In a desperate but vain effort to swerve the truck to avoid another north bound car, and with his trailer jack-knifed, the truck driver struck the car of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll C. Hutchings, of Sausalito, who had with them a 2-months old baby. They were shoved into the swamp adjacent to the Greenbrae bridge, and the truck and trailer followed them.

Mrs. Hutchings was taken to Ross Hospital with injuries to her arm. Her husband and the child as well as the truck driver were not hurt.

Pears wre spilled all over the highway and traffic was held up for a short time. Highway Patrolman Gus Turett came upon the accident as it occurred and cited Franklin for reckless driving. The officer was __?__ by State patrolman Carbine, who was off duty at the time.
