JOHN CUNNINGHAM
John R. Cunningham, 57, member and past president of the Larkspur School District board, died yesterday in a local hospital after a short illness.
He was born in San Rafael and lived most of his life in Kentfield and Larkspur. His father had been the foreman of the Kent estate in Kentfield.
He was a member and elder of the Redwoods Presbyterian Church in Larkspur and was active in Cub Scouting.
Cunningham attended Tamalpais High School, the College of Marin, the University of California and Stanford University. During World War II he served one year as acting professor of metallurgy at Stanford University. He was chief materials engineer for Standard Oil Co. in San Francisco. He had worked for the company 29 years.
Cunningham was also a member of chi Pi Sigma, Sigma Xi, the American Petroleum Institute and the American Society for Metals.
He had been a school trustee since 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, at home, 30 Elm Avenue, Larkspur; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Crittenden of Alameda, and Katherine, at home; a son, James, at home; a sister, Mrs. Grace Honeyman of Walnut Creek and a grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the Redwoods Presbyterian Church in Larkspur. The Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial gifts to the Redwoods Presbyterian Church are preferred by the family.
