RUTH NOONAN THOMPSON, Mother and Friend
Born in New York City in 1917, a graduate of Manhattanville College and a resident of San Rafael since 1958, Ruth passed away at the Nazareth House in Terra Linda on October 27, 2001. Devoted wife of the late William J. Thompson, Ruth was the loving mother of Kevin, Tom, Bill and Mark Thompson, Mary Tara McCarthy and Micaela Presti; sons-in-law Clem McCarthy and Joseph Presti, M.D.; and daughters-in-law Therese Hopkins and Karen Thompson. Her precious grandchildren are Elizabeth, Will, Joe and Andrew. She is also survived by her beloved sister Catherine Tobin of Albany, NY, and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Her extended family included John Rogan, the late Ann (Netta) Strom, Mel Strom and her dear friend Charlotte Euwer of New Jersey. Ruth enjoyed her many friends on both coasts. Very outgoing, she had a keen interest in the welfare of people. A long time member of St. Isabella's Parish and a volunteer at her children's schools, Kaiser Hospital and the Nazareth House, Ruth loved reading, opera, travel, Cheez-Its and telling stories of her years on the ranch in Colorado. Ruth had a warm sense of humor and made her children laugh until the end. Ruth also had a deep commitment to her faith. Her children are grateful for the loving care that the Sisters of Nazareth and staff of Nazareth House extended to Ruth and her family. A Mass celebrating Ruth's life will be offered Thursday, November 1, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isabella's in Terra Linda. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nazareth House. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Nazareth House, 245 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael, CA 94903.
